How students are considered
Published processA parent, teacher, community member, or student may ask the classroom teacher or school Program Specialist for gifted testing. A 97th-percentile score on a state-approved test in verbal, quantitative, or nonverbal reasoning qualifies. Flagstaff also describes a provisional alternative that considers state achievement scores, academic performance, and general school success.
What service can look like
Published modelK-5 services can include inclusion, daily RTI time, flexible or cross-grade grouping, multi-age classes, differentiated pacing, content or grade acceleration, and an annual Personal Education Plan. In Grades 6-8, gifted students are grouped for English and mathematics, may take honors science and social studies, and can pursue named interest-based academy pathways.

01Contact the student's classroom teacher or school Program Specialist and request the current gifted-testing instructions before the next October, December, or February session.
02Ask which state-approved abilities test will be used and make sure the family receives verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal battery percentiles.
03If the student does not reach the 97th percentile in one battery, ask whether the district's provisional route applies and which achievement and classroom evidence may be reviewed.
04For K-5 placement, request the student's annual Personal Education Plan and identify the actual grouping, pacing, differentiation, or acceleration the school will provide.
05For Grades 6-8, review English and mathematics grouping, honors options, and academy prerequisites before course-selection deadlines.
