Salem accepts nominations all year and tests primarily in spring. After written parent consent, creativity and intelligence tests are combined with ratings, grades, standardized results, and other evidence for a blind placement-committee decision.

How students are considered
Published processTeachers nominate from the end of Grade 2 through Grade 12, and students, families, or community members may also nominate throughout the year. With written parent permission, the coordinator administers three-part creativity and intelligence testing and combines those results with teacher ratings, standardized tests, classroom grades, and submitted creativity or leadership evidence. Students are numbered for blind committee review, and families receive the decision.
What service can look like
Published modelAll K-2 students receive 30 minutes of weekly enrichment. Identified Grades 3-6 students attend pullout twice weekly for creativity, problem solving, higher-level thinking, hands-on work, and technology. Grades 7-12 use regular-class differentiation, pullout, Pre-AP, AP, and concurrent or dual-credit courses.

01Nominate the student in writing and confirm the next spring testing and evidence deadlines.
02Return written testing permission and ask when creativity and intelligence assessments will occur.

04Request the written blind-review decision and ask what appeal or reconsideration route is available.
