Sheffield City Schools publishes a detailed K-12 gifted pathway. Early elementary students receive differentiated classroom support, Grades 3-5/6 receive three to five hours of gifted resource-room instruction weekly, and secondary students use advanced courses, electives, dual enrollment, counseling, mentorships, and independent study.

Published processFamilies, teachers, counselors, administrators, students, peers, or another knowledgeable person may refer, and all second graders are screened. Eligibility uses aptitude, a classroom-teacher characteristics rating, and at least three performance indicators scored on the Alabama matrix.
Published modelGrades K-2 receive general-classroom accommodations with gifted-specialist help as needed. Grades 3-5/6 attend a gifted resource room for three to five hours each week. Grades 6/7-8 use at least one advanced or Pre-AP course and electives. Grades 9-12 may use advanced, AP, Pre-AP, elective, dual-enrollment, college-and-career counseling, mentorship, and independent-study options.
