Lee County Schools accepts gifted referrals in Grades K-6 and screens all second graders through Child Find. Its program uses multiple forms of evidence and can deliver differentiated learning through pullout instruction, advanced content classes, seminars, independent study, dual enrollment, cluster grouping, or curriculum compacting.

How students are considered
Published processFamilies, educators, students, peers, or another knowledgeable person may refer a K-6 student. Every second grader is observed. The district screens referrals and considers aptitude, a classroom-teacher gifted-characteristics rating, and at least three performance indicators such as achievement, grades, products, work samples, or portfolios through an eligibility matrix.
What service can look like

The assigned option depends on the student's grade and local school schedule.

01Contact the child's school or the district gifted program director and request the current K-6 referral instructions.
02If the child is in second grade, ask whether the universal Child Find observation has already taken place.
03Save authentic work that may support the required performance indicators, including products, portfolios, achievement information, or classroom work samples.
04Expect aptitude, classroom-observed characteristics, and at least three performance indicators to be considered together.
05After eligibility, ask which published delivery option applies at the child's school and how often the student will receive it.
