Jefferson County Schools publishes a complete K-12 gifted pathway. Students move from classroom accommodations in the early grades to three hours of weekly gifted-resource instruction in Grades 3-5, then to advanced academic, arts, dual-enrollment, mentoring, and independent-study options in secondary school.

Published processA family member, educator, student, peer, or another knowledgeable person may submit a referral at any time. Every second grader is observed between September and May. The district considers an aptitude measure, three performance indicators, and a classroom-teacher rating of gifted characteristics under established scoring criteria.
Published modelIn Grades K-2, classroom accommodations are supported by a gifted specialist as needed. Identified students in Grades 3-5 leave the regular classroom for three hours each week in a gifted resource room. Grades 6-8 include at least one advanced core-content or fine-arts course. Grades 9-12 may use advanced, AP or IB courses, dual enrollment where available, college and career counseling, mentorships, and independent studies.
